(Remote Smart‑Home Consultancy & Automation Design)
Talloak Construction Ltd was originally formed after friends — and then their friends — began asking for help with making their homes more energy‑efficient using smart technology. What started as simple advice quickly grew into a specialist service, showing people how modern automation can reduce energy usage, improve safety, and make everyday living easier. Today, focusing entirely on remote smart‑home consultancy and automation design.
I began working with smart‑home technology over 10 years ago, around the time Alexa first appeared in UK homes. With more than 30 years of technical experience behind me, I was able to combine this new voice‑control technology with practical home automations that delivered real benefits. One of my first systems allowed us to set lights to specific levels, reduce unnecessary lighting, and change scenes depending on how a room was being used. From there, I developed automations that turned off any lights left on when everyone left the house — all fully customisable by the people living there.
These ideas soon expanded into whole‑home energy and safety routines. When the house is empty, non‑essential appliances such as TVs and standby devices automatically power down, reducing energy costs and lowering fire risk. Our heating system also adjusts itself: switching to frost‑protect mode when the house is empty, then warming up again as someone approaches home. These small changes add up to significant savings and a more comfortable, efficient home.
Today, under the Talloak Smart Spaces brand, we specialise in remote smart‑home design, automation programming, troubleshooting, and energy‑saving consultancy. We help people modernise older homes, improve accessibility, and reduce running costs using simple, non‑disruptive retrofit technology. We’re not a traditional construction company — we don’t carry out building works. Instead, we provide expert guidance, system design, and support. When physical work is needed, we can recommend trusted local trades to help you move forward.
Our aim is to help you create a home that uses less energy, is safer to live in, and is easier for everyone to control — whether you’re tech‑confident, less able, or completely new to smart technology.
